Following a successful official weigh-in and medical examination on Friday, 8th May, the 2026 Boxing Champions League season gets underway this Saturday at Club Obligato, promising an action-packed fight night.

The spotlight firmly rests on a high-stakes elimination bout between long-time rivals Shafiq Nasasira and Ibrahim Khemis.

In what is a renewed chapter of a compelling rivalry, Khemis Ibrahim of Kibuli Mutajjaz Boxing Club faces Police Boxing Club’s Shafiq Nasasira in a highly anticipated, nail-biting lightweight (60kg) contest.

This encounter marks their second trial in the Commonwealth Games elimination series, where the first boxer to secure two wins from the three scheduled meetings earns qualification for the Games set for Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, 2026.

While Nasasira claimed victory over Khemis in the 2025 Uganda Boxing Champions League final to lift last season’s title, Khemis responded emphatically by winning the first trial via a dominant 5-0 unanimous decision during last month’s National Open final in Kamwokya.

A win this Saturday would place Khemis on the brink of sealing his place in Glasgow.

Beyond the headline clash, the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) has introduced fan engagement incentives this season, with prizes per fight night including television sets, paint, woofers, and a grand reward of a brand-new car for VIP ticket holders.

In preparation for the season, the federation also conducted a four-day training course for coaches and referees, which concluded on Friday at TLC in Kamwokya.

The Champions League will culminate on Boxing Day, with winners awarded title belts in what remains the premier domestic platform for identifying national team talent.

This season ushers in a wave of fresh talent, with several new faces emerging from the National Open to replace relegated fighters.

Among them are Kasim Nsubuga, Seon Amanyire, Swabul Abdul, Arthur Mukisa, Joram Matovu, Alex Epula, and Ronnie Ogen. Notably, there has also been a significant rise in the participation of student boxers and female athletes.

Away from the main event, the fight card features a diverse and competitive lineup across various weight divisions:
