Hassan Mubiru delivered a decisive blow to his former club as SC Villa edged KCCA FC 1-0 under the floodlights at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba, in a result that could significantly reshape the title race.

The forward’s stunning second-half strike proved the difference in a fiercely contested Matchday 22 encounter, sealing Villa’s first league victory over their rivals in six years and extending their winning streak to four matches in all competitions.

KCCA FC, who came into the fixture on a five-game winning run, will rue missed opportunities from a first half in which they created the clearer chances.

Goalkeeper David Lukwago was called into action twice, producing sharp saves to deny Herbert Achai and Nana Kwikiriza and keep Villa level heading into the break.

After halftime, SC Villa returned with renewed urgency and greater attacking intent.

Their persistence eventually paid off just past the hour mark when Mubiru produced a moment of individual brilliance—gliding past his marker before unleashing a powerful long-range effort beyond goalkeeper Mugolofa.

That strike ultimately settled the contest, handing Villa maximum points and tightening the gap between the two sides on the table. KCCA FC remain fourth with 45 points, just one ahead of fifth-placed SC Villa on 44.

The result compounds KCCA’s frustrations, dealing a blow to their title ambitions and leaving the league as their only remaining shot at silverware following their exit from the Uganda Cup.

In contrast, SC Villa continue to build momentum, having already secured a place in the Uganda Cup semifinals.

Off the pitch, it was also a landmark day for Villa, who confirmed Hajji Omar Ahmed Mandela as the club president for the upcoming term, adding to the celebratory mood around the club.

Attention now shifts to the next round of fixtures, where SC Villa face a stern test against table leaders Vipers SC on April 15, while KCCA FC will look to bounce back when they take on Kitara FC two days later.

In the day’s earlier kickoff, Calvary registered their first league win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Buhimba, courtesy of a brace from Lawrence Olaboro.
