History was written in nerve-shredding fashion as Bukedea Comprehensive School clinched its maiden Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association Elite Games boys’ football title, edging Mentor Secondary School in a pulsating final decided by penalties.

The reigning FEASSA Games champions were forced to summon every reserve of resolve after falling behind to Gabriel Oyiru’s 32nd-minute strike.

For long stretches, Mentor appeared poised to script their own coronation. Yet Bukedea’s spirit, honed through adversity, surfaced at the decisive hour.

Deus Nuwaha struck at the death to restore parity at 1-1, silencing Mentor’s celebrations and swinging momentum irreversibly.

The ensuing shootout demanded composure of the highest order. Bukedea converted with icy precision to secure a 4-2 triumph, sealing a watershed moment in the school’s sporting annals.

Central to their campaign was the irrepressible Amis Yabil, whose three-goal haul earned him the tournament’s top scorer accolade.

His influence had been emphatic in the semi-final dismantling of Fort Portal SS, where Denis Ssewagudde’s early free-kick settled nerves before Yabil’s brace — including a deft looping finish — extinguished resistance.

Mentor’s journey, however, was no less compelling. They reached the final courtesy of a disciplined 1-0 victory over Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga, underlining a campaign defined by resilience and tactical cohesion.

Their hive-like industry and champion’s mentality were evident throughout the tournament, particularly in stirring comebacks against Bukedea in the group stages and Kyadondo SS in the quarter-finals.

Individual honours reflected Mentor’s excellence: Samuel Ayiko was named best goalkeeper, while Gabriel Oyuru Ogwang claimed the Most Valuable Player award.

As the Elite Games conclude on March 1, 2026, Bukedea’s triumph stands as a testament to fortitude, timing, and belief — the hallmarks of champions forged under pressure.
