In a thrilling encounter at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, Vipers SC stormed to the top of the Uganda Premier League table, outpacing Mbarara City FC 2-0 on Tuesday.

The Venoms, who have been chasing the lead since the season’s inception, finally claimed the coveted top spot with a convincing victory over the Ankole Lions.

Allan Okello and Abdu Karim Watambala struck for Vipers, securing maximum points.

Mbarara City put up a spirited fight, particularly in the first half, but their resolve was eventually broken when Okello opened the scoring five minutes before the break, converting a penalty after Milton Karisa was fouled in the box.

The Venoms sealed their win five minutes after recess, with Watambala capitalizing on a Mbarara City error to double the lead.

This crucial victory propels Vipers to the top of the table with 27 points, one ahead of KCCA FC, who suffered a 2-0 loss to Police FC.

Meanwhile, Mbarara City’s struggles continue, with the team sinking into the relegation zone in 14th place on ten points.

Vipers’ ascent to the top is a testament to their title chase.

With a game to spare, the Venoms are poised to make a strong push for the title, leaving opponents to wonder if they can be dethroned.
