The Platinum Football Fans Association Uganda Limited (PFFAU Ltd) has hailed the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) decision to revert to the traditional round-robin format for the Uganda Premier League (UPL).
This move marks a significant victory for Uganda’s football fans, clubs, and stakeholders who stood firm in unity and solidarity to protect the integrity and fairness of the game.
“We commend FUFA for listening to the voices of the fans and recognizing that football cannot thrive without its greatest stakeholders — the supporters,” said the PFFAU Ltd in a press release.
Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa, the Vipers SC President, was particularly praised for his leadership and commitment to fairness, which inspired the wider movement for reform.
As the football fraternity celebrates this milestone, PFFAU Ltd has called on FUFA and all football bodies to institutionalize regular stakeholder consultations before major policy decisions.
They also advocate for the establishment of a Fans’ Advisory Council within the football governance structure to promote continued unity, transparency, and accountability.
“This outcome is not a victory for any one group, but for Ugandan football as a whole,” emphasized PFFAU Ltd.
“It demonstrates that consultation, dialogue, and solidarity can lead to meaningful change.”
The fans’ voice must remain central in shaping the future of Ugandan football, and this win serves as a reminder that football belongs to its people — and when we stand together, progress becomes inevitable.
FUFA’s decision to revert to the old format followed ugly scenes of protest by fans, who in defiance boycotted all league game played in the new format .
