The Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) has received a significant boost from Mandela Group’s City Tyres brand ahead of the highly anticipated 8th edition of the East African Badminton Challenge.

The partnership was officially confirmed with the handing over of trophies and equipment at the City Tyres offices in Kampala.

City Tyres’ commitment extends beyond trophies, with a comprehensive sponsorship package that includes 125 meticulously crafted trophies, rackets, certificates, and an enhanced prize purse for various winners.

The prize money has been increased from 8 million to 11 million Ugandan Shillings, elevating the stakes for competitors.

The championship, scheduled to take place from October 16th to 19th, 2025, at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium, promises to be a spectacular event.

Over 1500 participants from across the region and beyond are expected to converge in Kampala, showcasing their talent and skill across various categories.

Herbert Bashasha, Head of Marketing and Communication at City Tyres, reiterated the company’s commitment to sports development, highlighting their decade-long partnership with UBA.

“Our partnership with UBA spans over a decade, driven by our deep-seated love for sports,” Bashasha stated.

UBA CEO Simon Mugabi expressed gratitude for City Tyres’ support and highlighted the introduction of new categories, including Media and Coaches.

“This competition is going to provide many players with invaluable exposure,” Mugabi emphasized.

The 8th edition of the East African Badminton Challenge promises to be an exciting celebration of badminton excellence, with athletes from Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, DR Congo, Burundi, and South Sudan set to converge in Kampala.
