The FIFA Players’ Voice Panel has been established to bring an end to racism in football, with a 16-strong group of legends from the men’s and women’s games.

George Weah, the legendary Liberian striker, has been appointed honorary captain of the panel, which includes other prominent players like Blaise Matuidi, Didier Drogba, and Formiga.

The panel’s primary goal is to champion the Global Stand Against Racism, a initiative unanimously adopted by the 211 FIFA Member Associations.

The group will monitor and advise on anti-racism initiatives, drive education at all levels of the game, and serve as a think tank for new ideas.

Matuidi, a World Cup winner with France in 2018, is committed to using his platform to promote diversity and inclusion in football.

He joins Weah and other panel members in advocating for cultural change and the consistent implementation of anti-racism measures across the football ecosystem.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized the importance of having players at the heart of the movement to make a lasting change.

“Racism and discrimination are not simply wrong – they are crimes,” he said.

“All incidents of racism, whether in stadiums or online, must be fully punished both by football and across society.”

The panel members will play an instrumental role in educating various groups, including players participating in FIFA youth tournaments, about racism.

They will offer support and practical advice on how to join the fight against racism and promote awareness of the recently enhanced measures against racism.

Weah, a Ballon d’Or winner and former president of Liberia, is committed to promoting football as a force for unity and development.

“I will always exert all efforts to promote the sport because football is life,” he said.

“I am honoured to serve in this role.

The Players’ Voice Panel is a significant step towards creating a more inclusive and respectful football environment.

With legends like Weah and Matuidi at the helm, the panel is poised to make a lasting impact on the sport.
