Ibrahim Thembo, a key defensive midfielder for NEC FC, has confirmed his departure from the Uganda Premier League side.

In a heartfelt statement on his social media platforms, Thembo expressed his gratitude to the club, management, players, and technical staff.

“I thank Allah for the gift of life and thank the NEC FC management, players, and the technical staff under coach Mbalangu for the opportunity of working with you people,” Tembo said.

“My two-year journey at the club has come to an end, it wasn’t easy but Allah has been on our side. Wishing the team all the best.”

Thembo joined NEC FC at the start of the 2023/24 season on a two-year employment contract.

During his tenure, he played a crucial role in helping the team finish as runners-up in the Stanbic Uganda Cup and secure a second-place league finish.

Thembo’s departure comes after a successful stint with NEC FC, and he has previously played for Vipers, UPDF FC, Arua Hill, and Mbarara City.

Thembo’s rise is remarkably remembered in Buddo SS’s 2018 schools unstoppable run.

The midfielder was a key component as Buddo won the 2018 USSSA Boy football tournament in Mbarara.

Buddo went ahead to clinch the FEASSA Games championship in Musanze Rwanda under tactician Simon Peter Mugerwa.

NEC FC may also lose Enock Ssebaggala, who is out of contract and has attracted interest from double champions Vipers SC.
