Gomba unveils revamped squad for 2025 Masaza Cup
Masaza Cup five-time champions Gomba unveiled their 30-man squad last evening ahead of the 2025 Masaza Cup, which kicks off on June 21st. Masaza Cup five-time champions Gomba unveiled their 30-man squad last evening ahead of the 2025 Masaza Cup, which kicks off on June 21st.

The squad features 27 new faces, including notable signings such as midfielder Michael Abura from Mawokota, forward Robert Ssewanyana from Buluuli, defender Herbert Onen from Buddu, and goalkeeper Julius Ssenyonjo from Ssingo.

Other notable newcomers are Joseph Ssewali, Dirisa Masembe, Nicholas Kirabira, Razak Mumbere and Isaac Openyo.

The squad unveiling event was marked by a friendly match against Ssingo, which Gomba won 2-0.

New signings Michael Abura and Robert Ssewanyana scored the goals, showcasing the team’s potential.

The technical team, led by last year’s Masaza Cup-winning coach Simon Ddungu “Dunga”, is confident of success.

Ddunga will be assisted by Simon Gitta, William Ssuubi (Fitness), and Jamada Magaasi (Goalkeeping). The team’s coaching staff is well-equipped to guide the players to victory.

Gomba’s last Masaza Cup triumph came in 2020 under tactician Ibrahim Kirya, when they beat Buddu 3-1 in the final.

Charles Bbaale, Gift Fred and George Kaddu scored for ten man Gomba while Titus Ssenatimba pulled one back Buddu.

The 2025 Masaza Cup edition will feature defending champions Buddu facing off against Gomba in the opening tie at Kitovu Sports Arena in Buddu.

With their revamped squad and experienced coaching staff, Gomba is poised to make a strong challenge for the title.

Ssaza chief Owek. Kituunzi Fredrick William Mugabi and Rt. Rev Bishop Michael Lubowa (Central Buganda Diocese) were chief and guest of honour respectively.

Gomba’s organization structure for 2025 includes:

– Swaibu Luzinda – Vice Chairman (Technical)

– Jafari Kalule – Team manager

– Livingston Kasule – Treasurer

– Resty Mbatidde Namugema – Media

– Steven Yamulemye – Security

– Derrick Luliibe Nsubuga – CEO

Defenders: Apenyo Isaac, Tabbu Frank, Mumbere Razak, Nsubuga Hassan, Onen Herbert, Fungalo Ronald, Mutamba Meddie, Mutebi Alex

Midfielders: Kirabira Nicolas, Masembe Dirisa, Kakande Lawrence, Mudulu Peterson, Yiga Ssande, Abura Micheal, Kanyike Bosco

Forwards: Lwanyaga Richard, Ssewaali Joseph, Otim Calvin, Ssewanyana Robert, Okwi Simon Peter, Alvin Kitiibwa, Sulundu Ibrahim, Kkonde Denis, Mulwana Ibra, Jeremiah Rwotho Jabira, Thomas Tebasiima, Wabuziba Eric
