In a thrilling Buganda Women League playoff final, UPDF Women FC secured a commanding 4-1 victory over Luweero Giant Queens, clinching promotion to the FUFA Women Elite League.

The match was a testament to UPDF’s determination and skill, as they overcame an early setback to dominate the proceedings.

Luweero Giant Queens had gotten off to a flying start, with Joyce Nankunda scoring within the first 30 seconds of the game.

However, UPDF quickly regained their composure and equalized through Auma Flavia, who converted a penalty after captain Akullu Zamzam was fouled in the box.

Just before halftime, Chekwemboi Patience gave UPDF the lead, finishing clinically after receiving a precise pass from Achan Juliet.

In the second half, Achan extended the lead with a close-range finish from Auma’s well-delivered corner.

Chekwemboi then completed her brace with a well-taken volley, securing a historic milestone for UPDF Women FC.

The victory marks UPDF’s promotion to the second tier, just two years after their formation.

They topped the Katonga Group on head-to-head advantage over Kyadondo United WFC, despite both sides finishing level on 25 points from 11 matches.

Luweero Giant Queens, who had an impressive regular season campaign, were ultimately undone by UPDF’s relentless performance in the final.

With this win, UPDF Women FC cements its position as a rising force in Ugandan women’s football, and their promotion to the FUFA Women Elite League is a testament to their hard work and dedication.
