Mbarara City FC has parted ways with head coach Charles Livingstone Mbabazi, citing a string of poor results that have pushed the Ankole Lions perilously close to relegation.

Mbabazi, who was appointed on June 17, 2024, with a two-year contract, lasted less than a year in the role.

During his tenure, Mbabazi managed 26 games, securing 5 wins, 8 draws, and 13 losses.

The team’s performance was marked by a poor attack, averaging under 0.7 goals per game, and a leaky defense, conceding over 1.1 goals per game.

Mbarara City currently sits 13th in the league, just three points above the drop zone.

The team’s last victory on the pitch came on February 13, 2025, with a 0-1 away win against Mbale Heroes.

Their last home “win” was a 3-0 award against KCCA FC by FUFA decision.

With four matches remaining, Mbarara City’s fixtures are daunting.

They face direct relegation rivals Wakiso Giants away, followed by home matches against Lugazi FC and Express FC, and finally, an away match against Maroons FC.

To stay up, they will likely need at least 4-6 points from these matches.

The team’s survival chances hinge on immediate impact from new technical leadership, a focused response, especially at home, and a bit of help from results elsewhere not favoring direct competitors.

The battle is far from over, and Mbarara City FC’s fate remains uncertain.

Can they turn things around under new leadership and secure their spot in the league?
