The 2025 UMEA Solidarity Games Netball tournament has thrown off with a bang at Namagabi Secondary School in Kayunga, with defending champions Kawanda SS and tournament favorites Greenlight Islamic Secondary School making impressive starts.

Greenlight Islamic got their campaign off to a flying start with a 28-17 win over Nankabirwa SS in the tournament opener.

Meanwhile, Kawanda SS sent a strong title defense signal with a convincing 47-05 victory over Nateete Muslim.

Other notable results on the opening day included Kaddugala SS’s 23-14 win over Kasawo SS and Ngando SS’s 25-17 victory over Amity SS.

Kibuli SS also made light work of Aringa SS, winning 24-08, while Gombe SS thrashed Bilal Islamic 58-05.

The most closely contested match of the day was between Busiika Muslim and hosts Namagabi SS, with Namagabi emerging victorious 24-19 in a highly protested tie.

The tournament will continue tomorrow with group stage matches, followed by the quarterfinals and semifinals on Sunday.

The third-place classification and final ties will take place on Monday, April 21st.
