Kitara FC produced a spirited performance to overcome a one-goal deficit and defeat Gaddafi FC, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

The defending champions, seeking to retain their title, demonstrated remarkable character on enemy territory, securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

The match began with Gaddafi FC taking the lead in the 16th minute, courtesy of Captain Tom Kakaire’s goal, which was facilitated by Samuel Kawawa’s pass.

However, Kitara FC responded resolutely, with Fred Amaku leveling the scores in the 26th minute by capitalizing on goalkeeper Sekandi’s blunder.

The decisive moment arrived in the second half when second-half substitute John Bosco Byaruhanga sealed the victory for Kitara FC with a well-taken goal in the 65th minute.

This triumph marked Kitara FC’s progression to the quarterfinals, where they will join Police FC, who defeated Maroons FC at Luzira on the same day.

With the league title seemingly out of reach, Kitara FC will now focus their attention on the Uganda Cup, which represents their only hope for silverware this season and a potential ticket back to continental competition.
