Vipers SC solidified their position at the summit of the Uganda Premier League table with a resounding 2-0 triumph over arch-rivals KCCA FC on Sunday at the Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

The victory, courtesy of first-half goals from Yunus Sentamu and Allan Okello, has dealt a significant blow to KCCA’s title aspirations, leaving them 16 points adrift of the league leaders.

The deadlock was broken just shy of the half-hour mark, as Sentamu capitalized on a precise pass from Karim Watambala.

The striker expertly evaded his marker before unleashing a well-placed right-footed effort into the far corner of the net.

Two minutes later, Okello doubled Vipers’ advantage, punishing his former employers with a clinical finish.

The attacking midfielder seized upon Filbert Obenchan’s failure to clear the danger, bundling the ball past the helpless KCCA goalkeeper Mutwalib Mugolofa.

KCCA had earlier seen a penalty appeal waved away, following a collision between Etienne Katenga and Vipers’ goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza.

Despite a marked improvement in their second-half performance, the hosts were unable to breach Vipers’ resolute defense, with Saidi Mayanja coming closest to scoring on two occasions.

The win propels Vipers to 40 points, establishing a three-point cushion over NEC, who were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Police FC at Kavumba.

In contrast, KCCA’s title hopes have suffered a significant setback, as they remain sixth in the table, a substantial 16 points behind the league leaders.
