Vipers SC claimed top spot in the Uganda Premier League after edging Soltilo Bright Stars 2-1 in the early Saturday kickoff.

Allan Okello and Gusto Mulongo were on target for the Venoms, while Warren Bule netted the consolation for the hosts.

The visitors drew first blood in the 15th minute, courtesy of Gusto Mulongo’s close-range finish. The Bright Stars defense failed to clear a well-taken corner, allowing Mulongo to capitalize.

Five minutes later, in-form Allan Okello doubled the lead with a clinical finish. Okello made a darting run, receiving a low pass from Watambala, before smartly dispatching the ball into the net. This strike took his season tally to seven goals.

Warren Bule reduced the deficit with ten minutes remaining in the first half. Vipers failed to deal with a freekick, and Bule punished them with a precise finish on a loose ball inside the box.

Before the break, Milton Karisa and Moses Waiswa were both denied opportunities to stretch the lead by Soltilo Bright Stars goalkeeper Shamulan Kamya.

In the second half, striker Nelson Senkatuka had a glorious chance to equalize, but his effort was denied by the crossbar.

The victory propelled Vipers to the top of the table with 24 points, one point ahead of NEC FC.

Soltilo Bright Stars, on the other hand, remain rooted to the bottom of the table with only six points from eleven games.
