STORY BY GEOFFREY MUGABI

The MATCH-DAY nine of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League kicked off today with one game as Police FC and Lugazi FC shared the spoils in a goalless draw.

The kick-off was delayed due to heavy down pours, and the game kicked off 12 minutes later.

Lugazi FC had three good chances to put the ball at the back of the net in early minutes but failed to utilize them, with one effort denied by the woodwork.

In the same stanza, Gerrald Ogweti and Denis Kalanzi each had a chance to put the hosts in the lead, but they weren’t clinical, and the first stanza ended goalless.

In the last stanza of the game, Police FC came with an attacking approach and dominated the game.

However, Reagan Male and Ben Ocen had several chances but wasted them.

Both teams shared the spoils in Kavumba in a game that the hosts will regret not picking maximum points.

After the game, Police FC head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa blamed his boys for not utilizing the chances.

“In the first half, we didn’t look good, but we changed the game approach and formation and had a better second half, but my boys failed to utilize the chances. I am so disappointed, but we shall go back and improve so that in the next games, we score goals.” said a disappointed Mugerwa.

Lugazi FC assistant coach Oliver Mbekeka applauded her boys for their spirited performance.

“We only had to use the chances we got in the first stanza, but we failed, and in the second half, the opponents changed the game approach, which took time for my boys to read, but they fought, understood the opponents, and managed to pick a hard-fought point.” said Mbekeka.

Lugazi FC is now 10th on the table with 10 points, while Police FC is now 4th on the summit with 12 points.

Match-day nine continues on Thursday with three games as Soltilo Bright Stars host Maroons FC, BUL FC welcomes Express FC, and in the late kickoff, KCCA will host NEC FC.
