The defending champions of the U20 TotalEnergies AFCON Zonal Qualifiers, the Uganda Hippos will be in action this Wednesday evening taking on Burundi in their second Group B game.

The match will be played at KMC Stadium in Tanzania at 4:00 PM.

Mathias Lule’s boys will aim to secure their second consecutive win following their emphatic 3-0 victory over Ethiopia in the group opener.

Godfrey Sekibengo, Swabir Mpasa, and John Innocent Kisolo all scored a goal each in Uganda’s victory. On the other hand, Burundi registered a narrow victory beating South Sudan 1-0.

Speaking to the media, head coach Mathias Lule expressed optimism about his team’s chances.

“Burundi is a very good team, eager to get maximum points. It’s going to be a do-or-die game.

However, we are well-prepared, and the boys will put up a good fight to secure the three points and progress to the next round.”

Midfielder and assistant captain John Innocent Kisolo acknowledged the significance of the Burundi game.

“The coaches have prepared us and we know that we need only three points to secure a semifinal spot before playing our last game. We must play to our coaches’ plan to win the game.”

In their previous encounter in the same tournament, Uganda stunned Burundi 6-1.

It is worth noting that the top two teams from the group stage will qualify for the tournament semifinals with both finalists securing a spot in the U20 AFCON final tournament.

Fans can catch the action live on FUFA TV and the CECAFA YouTube Channel.

Uganda’s Probable Lineup: Abdu Magada (GK), Steven Namaisi, Swabir Mpasa, Toto Majub, Louis Anguti, Rayn Kizito, John Innocent Kisolo, Godfrey Sekibengo, John Paul Dembe, Allan Oyirwoth, Richard Okello.
