Wakiso Giants bottled a 1-0 lead to share spoils with Soltilo Bright Stars during their StarTimes Uganda Premier League opener.

The Wakiso City derby was held at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso on Sunday, the 15th September 2024.

This was the first game for Steven Bengo as permanent head coach for the Purple Sharks. Bengo is also assisted by former Uganda Cranes midfield maestro Tonny Mawejje.

Wakiso Giants took the lead through debutant Herbert Asiimwe, seven minutes before the break, however, it wasn’t enough for the host to take maximum points.

Bright Stars’ John Alou Kokas who replacing Ashraf Mulindi immediately after the break score the equalizer in 68 minutes of play.

Kokas was well stationed outside the area to fire a ferocious strike home when Wakiso Giants failed to clear their lines.

The two teams return to action this week with Wakiso Giants visiting Maroons FC in Luzira on Friday while Soltilo Brights Stars will be at home to URA FC on the same day.
