The 30th Edition of the National Cross Country Championships is set to be held this Saturday 10th February 2024 at Tororo Golf Course Club in Tororo.

The Uganda Athletics Federation president Domenic Otucet confirmed this development in the press briefing he held at the federation head offices at Metropole House Kampala on Wednesday 7th  February 2024.

According to the federation president, the event which is expected to start off at 9am, will be used as a platform to select the national team that will represent the nation at two upcoming international events.

The two international events, include; the World Cross Country Championship slated to take place on 30th April 2024 in Belgrade Serbia and the C.A.A Africa Cross Country Championship scheduled for Tunisia on 25th  February 2024.

The 30th Edition is expected to have the country’s stars in Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo.

“It’s a golden opportunity to see our world stars like Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo compete at home.” Says UAF president Domenic Otucet.

15 clubs, Districts, schools and Universities confirmed their participation by the end of business yesterday.

“Teams have been registering online and the registration ended on Wednesday 7th February 2024.” He was quoted.

The registered include; Police, Prisons, UPDF, KCCA, Lukungu Academy, Kids of Africa, Kyenjojo Secondary School, Mountain of the Moon University, Sironko, Adjumani, Zombo, Arua among others.

“This time round we are also including some other race categories which haven’t been there.

The U16 category for school going children who will run 4km, the masters race for men of 40 years above and  women of 35 years and above.” Said Otucet.

Like it has been before, the top five winners from both sexes, will walk away with prize money ranging from UGX. 500,000 to 100,000.

  2. 2km Short Race men
  3. Junior Women (under 20) – 6km
  4. Junior Men (under 20) _8km
  5. Senior Women – 10km
  6. Senior Men – 10km
  7. Masters Women (35years +) – 8km
  8. Masters Men(35years+) – 10km
