Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has summoned a 28-man squad for the September–October international window, with the Belgian tactician banking on a group he believes combines the form, fitness and competitive edge required for four demanding international assignments.
The squad will spearhead Uganda’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign against Tunisia and Libya, before facing DR Congo in a two-match friendly series.
The Cranes travel to face Tunisia on 24 September, host Libya on 29 September, and will subsequently play DR Congo away on 2 October before hosting the Congolese side on 5 October.
Put says he is pleased with the current form, fitness and commitment of the players he has selected and believes the group has the quality to deliver positive results during the window.
The squad features a blend of established internationals and players enjoying regular football at club level, reflecting Put’s emphasis on match fitness as Uganda prepares for the AFCON qualifiers.
However, several familiar names have missed out on the latest selection.
Put confirmed that Jordan Obita and Elio Capradossi are unavailable because of injuries and wished both players a speedy recovery.
Other notable absentees include captain Khalid Aucho, Salim Jamal, Uche Ikpeazu, John Paul Dembe, Rogers Bobosi Byaruhanga and Jude Ssemugabi.
According to Put, some of the omitted players are currently without clubs or have only recently completed transfers and have not accumulated sufficient playing time.
Others have recently returned from lengthy injury lay-offs and are still working towards full match fitness, with limited minutes in their recent club appearances.
Put stressed, however, that their exclusion is not permanent, insisting that the door remains open for all of them to fight their way back into the national team.
The immediate focus now shifts to the 28 players summoned, who will be expected to translate their current club form into results as Uganda begins its latest push for AFCON qualification.
