Vipers Junior Team successfully defended their FUFA Junior League title after overcoming URA JT 3–2 in a pulsating final at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, on Sunday.
The Kitende-based side survived a late URA JT surge to complete another championship campaign in style, with captain Ashraf Kyakuwa playing a central role in the triumph and later being crowned the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
URA JT made the brighter start and were rewarded in the seventh minute when Emmanuel Obula converted Pascelo Kayiwa’s inviting cross to put the Junior Tax Collectors ahead.
Vipers gradually settled into the contest and found their equaliser in the 28th minute. Kyakuwa showed composure inside the decisive moment to level the contest and send the teams into the interval with the score tied.
The defending champions returned from the break with greater attacking intent and turned the game on its head within the opening ten minutes of the second half.
Jonah Tugume struck in the 55th minute to give Vipers the lead before Trevor Mubiru extended their advantage just four minutes later, putting the champions 3–1 ahead.
URA, however, refused to surrender their title challenge. Anderson Ssesazi reduced the deficit in the 77th minute, setting up a tense final spell as the Junior Tax Collectors pressed for a late equaliser.
Vipers absorbed the pressure and defended their narrow advantage through the closing stages, ensuring URA could not find a fourth goal of the afternoon.
The 3–2 victory confirmed Vipers JT as FUFA Junior League champions for another season, while Kyakuwa’s outstanding campaign was further recognised with the individual MVP award.
