USSSA Wakiso Qualifiers: Electric start for Greenlight, Buddo, Kitende, Madinah Islamic

32 football teams kicked off their journey for Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) National slots in Wakiso region qualifiers.

The qualifiers started on Monday, the 8th April 2024 on different eight (8) Venues in Naddangira zone.

Nansana zone champions Greenlight Islamic School who seemingly look to be giant killers of the season registered two convincing win on day one.

They won 3-0 against St. Michael in their opener. Denis Sserunjogi Katende, Moris Okello and Ryan Ssekamate scored the important three goals for the Nansana based side.

In their day one last encounter, Captain Egese scored a free kick and Henry Denis Wodeya converted from the penalty mark to overcome a physically brave Central College by 2-0.

Holders Buddo SS clearly showed their intentions of seeking to defend the title right from day one of the championship.

The Nsagi Zone finalists scored a total of 10 goals and conceding none in their two games on day one.

Buddo slimly won 1-0 against Kisubi Mapeera in the opener.

They also registered the biggest win of the day as they thumped Kajjansi Progressive 9-0.

Elsewhere, Light High Seguku secured a 6-0 victory against Kakungulu High School in one of the most entertaining duels of the day.

Abedeen Abdulkarim (brace), Benard Bagambe, Emmanuel Nabola and Peter Hire were on the score sheet as the Seguku-based side gathered maximum points.

National and East African champions St Mary’s Kitende registered two victories in as many games played.

In their first game of the day, Kitende secured a 4-0 over Boston High School.

Isa Bugembe, Santos Mariel, Hassan Mubiru and Arafat Nkoola were on target for Kitende.

In game two, Kitende thumped God Cares 6-0 to maintain a perfect start.

Denis Kisiriko and Serefin both scored a brace as Hakim Mutebi and Olimi Nyarwa grabbed a goal each.

In the ongoing championship, Kitende will try and end Buddo’s regional dominance since they (Kitende) have lost to the latter in more than two consecutive finals.

Nsangi zone champions Madinah Islamic are the other prospect and team to watch at this year’s Wakiso Region qualifiers.

Rogers Achema and Shafiq Kaweesi grabbed a brace and a goal from Collins Mulema as Madinah won 5-0 over Kawempe SS.

In their last tie of day one, Madinah beat Answar Moslem 3-0. Rogers Achema, Malcom Mwebe and Collins Mulema we’re on target for Madinah.
