UPDF FC advances to Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 32 with 4-2 victory

UPDF FC secured a convincing 4-2 win over Kampala Regional League side New Life Katereke in the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 64, held at the Nakivubo Blue Primary School Ground.

The victory propelled UPDF FC into the Round of 32, where they will join other top teams.

The match saw UPDF FC’s Kitara Daniel, Ochen Emmanuel, Asaph Ssegujja, and Ronald Kayondo score crucial goals, with Kayondo converting a penalty kick.

New Life Katereke’s Bbaale Trevor and Mulema Collin scored consolation goals for the hosts.

New Life Katereke started the match strongly, with Bbaale Trevor coming close to scoring within the first ten minutes.

However, UPDF FC broke the deadlock in the 44th minute, courtesy of Kitara’s strike from Rashid Faridi’s cross.

The hosts equalized just two minutes later through Bbaale, but UPDF FC regained their lead early in the second half.

The turning point came when Kayondo converted a penalty kick after Henry Mukwaya handled the ball in the box.

Ochen then extended UPDF FC’s lead, scoring from a well-crafted pass by Kayondo.

Ssegujja sealed the win, slotting home from the edge of the box.

Mulema Collin scored a late consolation goal for New Life Katereke in the 92nd minute.

With this victory, UPDF FC joins a list of top teams, including Wakiso Giants, URA, Lugazi, Soltilo Bright Stars, Vipers, NEC, Kitara, Express, Maroons, Gaddafi, and Pakwach Young Stars, in the Round of 32.
