Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga pulled off a stunning upset, defeating the football giants St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende 2-1 in a thrilling encounter at Bombo today.

The match started with a bang as Gerenga Ivan put Uganda Martyrs ahead in the first half.

The Kampala champions held onto their lead, finishing the opening period 1-0. Early in the second half, Usama Kyabaggu doubled their advantage with a well-placed strike, making it 2-0.

Kitende fought back relentlessly, pressing forward in search of a way back into the game, but Uganda Martyrs’ defense stood firm.

Despite Kitende’s efforts, it was only in the dying moments of the match that Denis Kisirko found the back of the net, scoring a consolation goal for Kitende, which marked his third goal in two matches.

However, it wasn’t enough to prevent the determined Uganda Martyrs from claiming a historic win.

In the earlier match of the day, St. Mary’s Kitende had routed Fortportal SS 5-1, a result that gave them a glimmer of hope for advancing to the quarterfinals.

Kitende, having now completed their group-stage fixtures, will have to wait for the results of the remaining matches to know their fate.

Meanwhile, the defending champions, Buddo SS, continued their dominance in the tournament with a solid performance in their two matches.

Buddo edged out Kyadondo SS 1-0, thanks to a solitary goal from Francis Balaba.

They followed that up with a 2-0 victory over Standard High School Zana, with goals from Francis Balaba and Geoffrey Nyonyi Ntono, further solidifying their position at the top.

Other notable results saw Kawempe Muslim SS beat Janan SS 2-0, while Bukedea Comprehensive played out a thrilling 2-2 draw with Mentor SS.
