Kampala, Uganda — SC Villa is gearing up for a crucial Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday, March 1st, where the club will present a comprehensive four-year accountability report.

The meeting, scheduled to take place at the Kampala suburb of Kulambiro-Ntinda, promises to be a key event for the club’s future, with presidential elections expected to dominate the agenda.

The current club president, Omar Ahmed Mandela, who made a return to the helm in November 2021 after a lengthy absence since 2004, is set to seek re-election.

However, he will face competition from Farouk Meywa, who is also positioning himself for the top leadership role.

Club spokesperson Asan Kasingye confirmed the importance of the AGM, stating that the meeting would not only showcase the achievements of the current administration over the past four years but also provide an opportunity for fully registered members to participate in shaping the club’s leadership.

“We are preparing to present our four-year accountability report,” Kasingye announced during a press briefing at Sixth Street, Kampala.

“This is an opportunity to reveal what has been accomplished under the current leadership.”

The leadership elections will be a focal point of the AGM, with Kasingye encouraging members interested in running for positions to attend and collect nomination forms.

“All fully registered members interested in leadership positions are welcome to join us and pick up their nomination forms at the meeting,” he added.

A major issue for discussion will be the Shs3.2 billion compensation the club received from the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) for the sale of the former Villa Park grounds.

Trustees chairman Gerald Ssendaula revealed earlier this year that the compensation had been invested as a fixed deposit and had grown to Shs4.5 billion.

The board has already indicated plans to purchase new land, potentially along Entebbe Road, following the upcoming elections.

In addition to governance matters, the AGM will also highlight the successes and challenges of the current administration. Over the past four years, the club has seen significant progress, including securing a place in the top echelons of the Uganda Premier League (UPL) and making strides in the Uganda Cup.

The AGM comes at a pivotal time for SC Villa, which, despite internal changes, remains one of the most successful football clubs in Uganda. Founded in 1975, the club has accumulated an impressive 17 league titles and 9 Uganda Cup trophies. This season, SC Villa is still in the hunt for a cup double, with the team progressing to the round of 16 in the Uganda Cup and currently sitting third in the UPL standings, just four points behind leaders Vipers SC.

Furthermore, SC Villa is marking its 50th anniversary with the launch of its inaugural Souvenir Magazine, which documents the club’s rich history and achievements. The publication is expected to serve as a tribute to the club’s legacy and its commitment to excellence in Ugandan football.

With leadership decisions on the horizon, SC Villa’s AGM will be a defining moment for the club, as it sets the course for the next chapter in its storied existence.
