Vipers SC star goalkeeper Alfred Macumu Mudekereza has been voted the best footballer for October 2022 in the Real Star Awards.

The Congolese custodian fended off opposition from Arua Hill’s Rashid Toha and BUL FC’s Richard Wandyaka to walk home with a cash plaque and a gong, at the event held at the Route256 Restaurant on Tuesday.

Mudekereza was a pillar in Vipers’ qualification to the group stages of the CAF Champions League for the first time in history.

It was also just the second time a Ugandan team was making the feat, in the current version of the coveted competition.

The self-styled custodian kept four clean-sheets in barren stalemates against Olympic Real De Bangui and TP Mazembe, enroute to the groups.

His biggest impressions though, came against Mazembe over two legs at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende and in Lubumbashi as we eliminated the five-time champions at the second preliminary round, courtesy of a 4-2 penalty shootout victory.

Mudekereza also kept a clean-sheet in Vipers’ Uganda Premier League opener against Soltilo Bright Stars, eventually ending 0-0.

These heroics were a continuation of the shutouts against Young Africans SC and Rayon Sport FC in our preseason international friendly matches.

Overall, Mudekereza has featured in eight matches and conceded just once. He conceded against KCCA FC in our second league game this season.

Rose Akon, Immaculate Nakisuyi, Andrew Ssekibejja, and Christine Birungi were also winners in basketball, cricket, golf, and woodball respectively.
