On Saturday morning, Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC edged Uganda Martyrs 1-0 in a thrilling encounter to maintain their top spot in the Women’s Super League.

In Bugolobi, the unlucky Martyrs succumbed to a 0-1 defeat against table leaders Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC, courtesy of Agnes Nabukenya’s dramatic late winner.

Uganda Martyrs faced a daunting task, with key players Sharon Kanyiginya and Gloria Naugerwa starting on the bench due to injuries.

The hosts’ slim squad and the absence of head coach Ssozi Edward on the bench due to suspension, further exacerbated their challenges.

In contrast, Shafic Mutebi’s side appeared more cohesive, with Agnes Nabukenya squandering an early opportunity to put the visitors ahead.

However, goalkeeper Sharon Kaidu produced a spectacular save to deny Nabukenya.

As the game progressed, Uganda Martyrs dominated proceedings, creating three scoring chances, including two that were cleared off the line.

Striker Latifah Nakasi was also denied twice by the crossbar in the second half.

In the dying embers of the game, Agnes Nabukenya seized upon a loose ball outside the box, dribbled past defenders, and unleashed a powerful shot that found the back of the net, securing a hard-fought victory for the visitors.

Kawempe Muslim Ladies maintained their grip on the top spot with 20 points from eight games, while Uganda Martyrs remained ninth with seven points.

In their next fixtures, Uganda Martyrs will host She Makerere, while Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC will welcome She Corporate.
