Meywa Farouq has intensified his campaign for the SC Villa presidency, pitching camp in Masaka over the weekend and unveiling solid backing from former club president Eng. Ben Misagga.

Accompanied by his campaign team, Team Bikolwa, Meywa met SC Villa supporters at Ssenyange Gardens, urging fans to rally behind his bid to lead Uganda’s most decorated football club.

“For all along, you couldn’t speak about Masaka and not mention Villa,” Meywa said, highlighting Misagga’s contribution to the club’s presence in the region.

“My brother Eng. Ben Misagga brought Villa here, but instead of supporting him, some people fought him.

He only needed guidance, and I am happy to inform you that he is with us and supports this cause. He wants Villa back in the right hands.”

Meywa also took a swipe at his rival, Hajji Omar Mandela, questioning the sustainability of “business money” in Ugandan football.

“Football doesn’t survive on business money,” he said.

“It needs dealers like us who can raise one billion shillings instantly and invest heavily in the game. We can’t wait for someone to sell maize flour or oil before financing football.”

Addressing fan engagement, Meywa emphasized the need for online registration to ease participation and cut costs.

“It costs UGX 50,000 just to travel to Kampala for registration,” he said. “With online registration, you save that money. Your job is to demand it; my job is to pay for your registration.”

The SC Villa elections are scheduled for March 2026, with campaigns gathering pace as contenders take their message to Villa strongholds across the country.
