Highway Secondary School Kiganda has emerged as one of the standout teams at the 2026 Buganda Schools Competitions after securing a place in the boys’ football knockout stage in their debut appearance.

Backed by a strong technical bench led by Technical Director Edward Golola, Head Coach Peter Ddungu, popularly known as “Dunga,” and Assistant Coach Abdallah Ssendagire, the Mityana-based side has shown remarkable promise.

The project is further supported by the school’s director and bankroller, Hajji Abdul Bisaso, the Member of Parliament-elect for Kasanda South.

Highway finished second in Group D with six points, three behind group leaders Greenlight Islamic Secondary School–Nansana.

The team began their campaign with a narrow 1–0 victory over hosts Kawanda Secondary School, courtesy of Abdallah Nsubuga’s decisive strike.

They later suffered a slim 1–0 defeat to Greenlight before bouncing back strongly to beat African Muslim Secondary School 2–0.

Denis Mpoza and David Isabirye found the net to secure their place in the knockout round.

Following the official opening ceremony on Thursday evening, the knockout phase of the tournament will begin on Friday, March 13, across different venues, with the championship set to conclude on Sunday, March 15, 2026.
