Alberto Atuna, the Uganda National Women’s Basketball team (Gazelles) head coach has resigned from his role with immediate effect.

Atuna confirmed his resignation via his social media platforms on Monday morning, the 16th October 2023.

It is time to say goodbye. I would never have thought that in such a short time, being part of something as big as “The Gazelles” would make me feel like a coach in such a deep way. We made history.

Just Thank You, especially to the players. Those of you who accompanied me in February and/or Afrobasket, thank you FUBA and President Nasser (Sserunjogi). I’m sure it’s not goodbye but until next time UG.” posted Atuna

Atuna was appointed as the Gazelles head coach in January this year.
The Spaniard guided the Gazelles to their third Afrobasket tournament.

He further steered the the Gazelles to the last 8 of the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket that was held in Rwanda this year, the best finish ever for Uganda.

Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations shall look forward to replace the Spaniard quickly.
