CATIDA FC have embarked on a major squad overhaul ahead of the new FUFA Big League season, with the club targeting promotion to the Uganda Premier League after narrowly avoiding relegation last term.
The Butchers have retained just eight players from last season’s squad and have already recruited eight new faces, with the club aiming to add seven more players before the transfer window closes.
The rebuilding project is being overseen by head coach Richard Luyima, who has begun shaping a new-look squad as preparations for the new campaign get underway.
Among the notable arrivals is former captain Michael Abura with a done deal, who returns to CATIDA FC after spending time away from the Big League to feature in the Masaza Cup.
Other new recruits include Brian Masembe and Bruno Mukwaya
Ashraf Neymar, defender Pius Kwoyero, Bashir Kintu, Brian Ssempijja, and Tadeo Muwanguzi are other unfinished prospects in pipeline.
Club President Ratif Dungu confirmed the extensive changes in an exclusive interview with the club’s website, citing discipline and commitment issues as key factors behind the decision to overhaul the squad.
“As we are getting in good shape ahead of the season, we are working to get back to our norm.
Last season we faced issues with players; some were not willing to fight for the badge while others had disciplinary issues.”
Dungu added: “For that, we have decided to let go of most players and retain only eight. So far, we have recruited eight and are still targeting seven more.”
The club has also made a significant change to its home venue, moving to Hamz Stadium – Nakivubo for the new season.
According to Dungu, the switch is intended to provide CATIDA with a venue that better suits its style of play while also improving the matchday experience for supporters.
“This season, Hamz Stadium – Nakivubo will be our home. We opted for a venue that favours our style of play and also gives comfort to our fans during games,” he said.
Despite the extensive rebuilding, CATIDA have set their sights firmly on promotion.
“We want to put ourselves in Uganda Premier League qualification contention this season. At the end of the long and competitive anticipated season, we want to be among the promoted teams,” Dungu stated.
