Ethiopia are through to the fifth round of the African qualifiers for FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, Costa Rica 2022 following a 2-0 victory at home over Tanzania in Addis Ababa on Friday.

The Ethiopians went into to tie on the back of a 1-0 first-leg defeat in Zanzibar two weeks ago but overturned their deficit to reach the final round after a 2-1 aggregate win.

Following a first leg defeat courtesy of Christer Bahera’s effort, Rediet Assresahagn leveled the aggregate score when she broke the deadlock after her deflected strike in the box beat goalkeeper Asha Mrisho in the 31st minute.

On return from recess, the Tanzanite pushed for a level but their hopes were dashed in the 76th minute when Assresahagn grabbed her second of the match to guarantee the triumph of her side on home soil.

With a clinical second leg win, the reigning CECAFA champions sealed a final round spot for the first time and will now face the winner between Uganda and Ghana in March 2022.
