Vipers SC picked their first ever point in the CAF Champions League group stages, following a barren stalemate with Guinea outfit Horoya Athletic Club, at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

The Saturday result didn’t tell the entire story though, as both sides had numerous chances to at least get a goal under the scorching sun in Kitende.

The Venoms nearly broke the deadlock in the 25th minute, but captain Milton Karisa failed to capitalise on a clean through ball by Bright Anukani.

The visitors threatened thereafter in the 33rd minute, but goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza brilliantly saved Issaka Samake’s shot, to keep matters leveled.

In the second stanza, we started on the front foot and should have scored in the 55rd minute, but Olivier Osomba struck wide after superb work by Yunus Sentamu.

Vipers SC left-back Isa Mubiru was sent for early showers in the 78th minute, as the referee adjudged him for elbowing an opponent.

The outcome at Kitende has placed Vipers third in Group C with a point, whereas Horoya AC tops the log with four points.

The Venoms will return to action on February 25th against East African rivals Simba SC at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
