In what will be the final CAF Champions League group stage match, Vipers SC will be hoping they can sign out with victory against Guinea outfit Horoya Athletic Club on Friday.

The bout to be hosted in Bamako, Mali at the Stade du 26 Mars also presents the perfect opportunity for the Venoms to pick their first ever group stage victory in the competition.

Both sides won’t progress to the next phase, with Alex Isabirye’s Ugandan champions placed fourth on two points, two adrift of huffing and puffing third-placed Horoya.

Should Vipers manage victory, they will ascend to third with five points, thus avoiding the wooden spoon in the club’s first-ever outing at this level

The other two sides, Raja Casablanca and Simba SC, who are placed first and second with 13 and nine points respectively, have already made the lucrative knockout round.

It ended in a barren stalemate when Vipers and Horoya met earlier this year at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, a game the hosts dominated but just couldn’t kill off.

Cromwel Rwothomio is fully back and in the squad after overcoming his personal problems that saw him sit out for two months.

Yunus Sentamu misses out nursing an injury while the trio of Livingstone Mulondo, Siraje Sentamu and Fabien Mutombora aren’t part of the contingent having been with their respective national teams.

Milton Karisa and Marvin Joseph Youngman are still out since they are still on the road to recovery from a hamstring and ankle problem respectively.

Murushid Juuko, too, is still out nursing an injury and it is not yet clear when he will return.
