Defending champions Buddu kicked off their title defense with a thrilling 1-0 victory over Gomba in the 2025 Airtel Masaza Cup opener at Kitovu Sports Arena.

Crispus Sseruwugge’s decisive goal earned Buddu the win, and he was named Man of the Match.

The match was witnessed by a mammoth crowd, eager to see the two teams in action.

Buddu’s midfield performance was anchored by Nicholas Jjonga and winger Godfrey Oyaka, who put on an impressive display.

This victory marks an optimistic start for Buddu as they aim to achieve a historic feat by becoming the first team to successfully defend their title.

Despite the loss, Gomba remains a formidable team, having won the tournament five times.

The 2025 Airtel Masaza Cup features 18 counties from the Buganda Kingdom and will run until November. The next fixtures are scheduled for June 28th and 29th, 2025.
