AUUS Games 2025: Busolo on target for Makerere as UMU, Kampala University get off the mark

The 2025 Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) Games officially kicked off today at Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mukono, with four exciting football matches played across three venues.

Kampala University got their campaign off to a winning start, beating ISBAT University 2-1 in a hard-fought encounter at Namilyango College pitch two.

Busolo Paul’s spot kick in the 5th minute and Nsubuga Gideon’s strike in the 29th minute gave Kampala University a 2-0 lead, before Jemba Abudshakur pulled one back for ISBAT in the 56th minute.

In another thrilling match, St Lawrence University, returning to the games since 2017, edged out Bugema University 1-0, thanks to Lukyamuzi Paul’s solitary strike in the 40th minute.

Makerere University sent a strong warning to opponents, thrashing Soroti University 3-0, with Ivan Ocheng netting twice and Emmanuel Okwong scoring a spectacular finish.

Bishop Stuart University also got off to a winning start, beating Lira University 2-0, courtesy of Lule Yusuf’s brace in the first stanza.

The afternoon fixtures promise more excitement, with Uganda Martyrs University taking on Kyambogo University, IUIU facing Bishop Stuart University, Bugema University against ISBAT University, and Nkumba University opening their campaign against Soroti University.
