Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei sets a new world record after winning a gold medal in 2020 Monaco Diamond League championship underway in Monaco, France.

Cheptegei won the 5000m race within 12:35:36 and broke a record set by Ethiopian super star, Kenenisa Bekele of 12:49:60 record set in 2004 in Birmingham, England.

Joshua has been  in exciting form since winning 10000M gold at last year’s World Championships.

The Pearl of Africa hero and the world’s amazing runner, before going into the race, Cheptegei vowed to break the record set by Bekele but finally made his words stand.
