The defending champions of the U20 AFCON Zonal Qualifier, the Uganda Hippos, were eliminated by the hosts this evening.

Tanzania came from a goal down to win 2-1 after extra time in the game played at KMC Stadium in Tanzania.

The first half ended goalless before Uganda Hippos captain Toto Majub scored in the 46th minute to put his side ahead.

With just 19 minutes remaining, Tanzania equalized through Sabri Kondo to force extra time.

In extra time, Jammy Jammy netted the winning goal for Tanzania in the last minute to seal their spot in the final.

The loss means Uganda has failed to qualify for the AFCON U20 final tournament, scheduled for January 2025 in Ivory Coast.

Tanzania will face either Kenya or Burundi in the final this Sunday. Kenya and Burundi face off later this evening.

Uganda will play for third place this Sunday at KMC Stadium against either Burundi or Kenya, depending on which team fails to reach the final this evening.
