A winning start for UMU as they eased past Muni University

 FT: UMU 2-0 Muni

Former champions Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) commenced their 2024/25 Pepsi University Football League (UFL) season on a strong note defeating Muni University 2-0 in Nkozi on Thursday.

Second half goals from Joseph Kayondo  and Akbal Ssentongo handed the two-champions a winning start.

Kayondo scored direct from a free-kick in the 50th minute whereas Ssentongo capitalised on an error by Muni’s Iddi Abdu to double  UMU’s advantage in the 80th minute.

The 2017 and 2022 winners now lead Group E with three points. Group E also has the International University of East Africa (IUEA) and the University of Kisubi (UNIK).

Two-time champions Kampala University will host Kampala International University (KIU) in Group D in Kibuli on Friday at 3pm.
