Cameroon tactician Alioum Saidou is confident his side will still perform to the expectations without forward  Marou Souaibou.

Saidou’s side lost their lethal forward Marou Souaibou who recently joined South African giants Orlando Pirates.

Cameroon targets a decent start when they kickoff their campaign against Congo in the TotalEnergies CHAN 2023 on Monday, 16th January  at the Miloud Hadefi Stadium in Oran, Algeria.

“We are Cameroon. Every football fan allover the continent is expecting us to compete not to participate and no team can compete with only one player.”

The tactician further affirms he has other good players to rely on for a tournament of this level to earn deserved success for Cameroon.

“Many great players might not be available here but nothing is going to stop us. We shall utilize the ones  available and we are ready to do better than we did at the previous edition. We have many new faces of local players who have a lot to prove.”

Youngster Jerome Ngom whose stardom was announced at the recently concluded World Cup in Qatar with his famous standout assist to captain Vincent Aboubakar to net against Brazil as Cameroon became the first African side to beat Selecao at that stage is among the players to watch.

The other special talents are Djawal Kaiba and captain Yves Moukoko.

Cameroon finished fourth at the last edition at home two years ago, and aim at matching their performance back then or better it.

The game between Cameroon and Congo will be played at 1900hrs GMT
