Debutantes Madagascar defeated Ghana in a historical 2-1 win in their group C opener at the ongoing 2023 TotalEnergies African Nations championship.

The first ever win at their first appearance at the tournament was played on Sunday night in the Algerian city of Constantine.

Solomampionona Koloina Razafindranaivo scored for Madagascar off forward Jean Yvon Razafindrakoto well weighed pass inside the Ghana penalty area

Koloina’s composure and calmness beat defender Nkrumah-Korsah to slot the ball past Ghana goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad in the 11th minute.

Madagascar’s much deserved win and three points to go top of Group C was a strong self announcement of their presence at the tournament that fashionably exhibited their great character, confidence and composure.

In the 62nd minute of play, Ghana’s Augustine Randolf misplaced a back pass to Danlad that was picked up a quick Madagascar’s Tokinantenaina Olivier Randriantsiferana who slotted home to double lead.

Ghana pulled one back through substitute Augustine Agyapong who curved a swinger from the right side of the pitch to beat Rakotohasimbola later in the 68th minute.

Madagascar’s Tsiry Olivier Tokinantenaina was named man of the match.

Madagascar lead group C with 3 points. Their next opponent would be on Thursday 19th against Morocco who pulled out of the tournament.

On the same day, Ghana will take on Sudan.
