Allan Kayiwa’s brilliant start to the 2022/23 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season continued with another goal in a 1-1 stalemate with Gaddafi Modern FC at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Wednesday.

The Red Eagles started the game with intent and were rewarded with an early goal in the eighth minute thanks to Kayiwa’s instinctive play in the box.

He was in the right place at the right time when Joseph Dhata’s curling effort hit the upright and back into his path.

The seven-time champions should have had a second goal midway through halftime but Ivan Mayanja’s shot from distance was deflected out for a corner.

Enock Ssebagala had a half chance at the stroke of halftime when his low shot went straight into the hands of the opposition goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa.

Kayiwa’s third goal of the season in four games ensured that the hosts took a narrow lead at the interval.

The visitors scored their equalizer seven minutes after the restart through Brian Kalumba who capitalized on Denis Otim’s blunder in the 53rd minute.

“I  thank God for the good form he is giving me, however as a team we are not yet where we want to be but we will go back and correct ourselves,” Allan Kayiwa said after the game.

Express remains sixth on the 15-team UPL log with five points and they will visit Onduparaka on Saturday, October 29th.
