Uganda’s Kitara Football Club will begin their 2026/27 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup journey with a first preliminary round tie against Somalia’s Mogadishu City FC, following the draw conducted on Thursday, August 6, at CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
The Royals face a demanding path on their return to continental football, knowing that progression from this opening hurdle could set up a daunting second preliminary round clash against Egyptian heavyweights Al Ahly FC.
Kitara will start the tie on the road, with the first leg scheduled between September 4–6 in Mogadishu, before hosting the decisive return leg at Hoima City Stadium between September 11–13.
The aggregate winner over the two legs will advance to the next round.
Should they navigate past Mogadishu City, Kitara will then meet Al Ahly in October, with another two-legged contest determining who secures a place in the lucrative group stages.
This marks Kitara’s second appearance in the CAF Confederation Cup, earned after lifting their second Stanbic Uganda Cup title during the 2025/26 season.
Their maiden campaign ended prematurely at the preliminary stage, where they were eliminated by Libya’s Al Hilal Benghazi.
Now under the stewardship of Wasswa Bbosa, the Hoima-based side returns with greater experience and ambition, aiming to make a deeper run on the continental stage and rewrite the narrative of their debut outing.
