Ukasha Matovu’s emphatic return to the Uganda Boxing Champions League has been duly recognised, with the light-middleweight standout named the Fortebet Real Stars Monthly Sports Awards Boxer of June.

Matovu announced his comeback in devastating fashion on Saturday, 20th June at the Lugogo Indoor Arena, dismantling Isaac Kasasa in a one-sided light-middleweight (71kg) contest.

The referee halted the bout in the third round after a sustained barrage of unanswered punches, awarding Matovu victory via Referee Stops Contest (RSC).

The performance marked a powerful statement from the COBAP Boxing Club fighter, who had been sidelined for 540 days (18 months).

His previous outing dates back to December 26, 2024, when he suffered defeat to teammate Nuhu Bate at the UMA Show Grounds.

Now competing in a higher weight division, Matovu re-enters a fiercely competitive landscape that includes notable contenders such as Nerrick “Bulabe” Tumusiime, Depark Mawanda, Bashir “Power Horse” Serugo, and reigning 2026 National Open champion Jonathan Wasswa.

Matovu edged fellow nominees Emily Nakalema and Kato Kazibwe to clinch the June accolade and accompanying cash prize.

In football, Uganda Cranes attacking midfielder Allan Okello was also honoured following a stellar run with Tanzanian giants Yanga.

Okello played a decisive role in securing the club’s fourth consecutive league title, delivering a sensational performance in the title-clinching match with a hat-trick and an assist.

The former Vipers SC star’s influence has been profound, as he concluded his debut league campaign with 14 goals, establishing himself as one of Yanga’s most pivotal figures.

The accolade marks his second consecutive Fortebet Real Stars Monthly Award, underlining his consistency and growing stature.

Rugby honours went to Yassin Wasswa of Buffaloes Rugby Club, whose match-winning penalty sealed the Uganda Rugby Premiership title against Pirates Rugby Club.

In motorsport, rally driver Hassan Alwi, alongside navigator Musa Nsubuga, claimed recognition after a commanding victory in the Masaka Rally.

The ceremony also paid tribute to the late Sydney Gongodyo for his outstanding contribution to Ugandan sport.

Real Stars Sports Agency CEO Isaac Mukasa emphasised the importance of preserving Gongodyo’s legacy, while a representative from Pirates Rugby Club lauded the organisers for honouring his enduring impact.
