Buddo Secondary School emerged champions of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Wakiso District U17 boys’ football championship after edging Greenlight Islamic Secondary School–Nansana 1-0 in a tightly contested final played on Friday, June 19, at Mwererwe in Matugga.

The decisive moment arrived in the dying minutes of the match when Abdul Shakur Babi calmly converted from the penalty spot to hand Buddo a slender but decisive victory.

The spot-kick was awarded after Hamza Ssentamu brought down Ambrose Aboyi inside the penalty area, gifting Buddo a late opportunity they seized with composure.

Buddo’s route to the final was emphatic. In the semi-finals, they dispatched Boston High School with a commanding 4-0 victory, underlining their attacking prowess.

Goals from Ambrose Aboyi, Nicholas Kawooya, Rahim Kato, and Carrick Richard Sserubiri sealed a dominant performance and booked their place in the final in style.

Greenlight Islamic Secondary School–Nansana, on the other hand, navigated a more arduous path.

They secured a narrow 1-0 win over St. Austin in the semi-finals, with Thomas Calvin Kawooya netting the all-important goal.

That victory came on the back of a tense quarter-final clash, where Greenlight overcame Kyadondo SS 5-4 in a dramatic penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Despite their resilience throughout the tournament, Greenlight fell just short in the final, undone by a late defensive lapse that proved costly.

All four semi-finalists—Buddo SS, Greenlight Islamic Secondary School–Nansana, Boston High School, and St. Austin—have qualified for the USSSA Ball Games II National Championship, scheduled to take place in Gulu from July 8 to 18, 2026.
