The 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) National Boys’ Basketball Championship burst into life on Thursday, April 30, at Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono, with a string of commanding performances setting the tone for a highly competitive tournament.
Kampala Zonal champions Kibuli Secondary School delivered the most emphatic statement of day one, cruising to a dominant 51–17 victory over St. Andrea Kahwa.
Their clinical display, defined by defensive discipline and offensive efficiency, stands as the biggest win recorded in the opening round of fixtures.
In the tournament opener, Wakiso representatives Mbogo Mixed Secondary School also announced their intent with authority, dismantling Forest Hill 50–25 in a performance marked by fluid ball movement and sharp shooting.
Last year’s semi-finalists, Seeta High School A-Level Campus, began their campaign on a strong note, comfortably dispatching London College of St. Lawrence 38–12.
Hosts Seroma likewise rose to the occasion, thrilling their home crowd with a composed 49–28 victory over Nyakasura.
Elsewhere, Great Aubrey secured a convincing 36–19 win against Kabalega Secondary School, while Jaman School impressed with a 50–28 triumph over Nabumali SS.
St. Micheal delivered one of the day’s standout turnarounds, overpowering Duhaga 37–8, and Klatoto eased past Jinja SS with a 30–12 result. Kifovu also edged Kitunga 25–17 in a tightly contested encounter.
With nine games completed, the championship has already showcased a blend of emerging talent and established school basketball pedigree, promising an enthralling contest in the days ahead.
Action resumes on Friday with a packed schedule of fixtures, as teams continue their pursuit of national glory. The tournament will run until May 8.
Defending champions Amus College School return with the weight of expectation, having clinched last year’s title with a 57–42 victory over Seeta High School A-Level Campus in the final held in Bukedea.
