In nail-biting final showdowns, St. Noa Girls Secondary School – Zana and Buddo Secondary School displayed remarkable champions’ grit to successfully defend their respective Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Wakiso District basketball titles.

In a captivating and high-intensity contest, St. Noa mounted a dramatic comeback to clinch the girls’ title, edging St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School – Kitende 44–43 at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso.

The game was fiercely contested from the onset, with both sides evenly matched at 17–17 and 28–28 at the end of the first and second quarters respectively.

St. Mary’s Kitende seized control in the third quarter, opening up a 36–31 lead heading into the final period.

However, St. Noa’s mental strength, resilience, and composure proved decisive.

They staged a spirited comeback, dominating the final quarter 13–7 to overturn the deficit and seal a narrow but memorable 44–43 victory.

Maxine Modesty Anyango delivered an MVP and Player of the Match performance, holding her nerve at the free-throw line to convert two crucial shots with just eight seconds remaining.

Those decisive points handed St. Noa their first lead of the game and ultimately secured the championship.

This triumph marks St. Noa Girls’ fourth Wakiso District title, their third consecutive crown, and a seventh straight appearance in the district finals.

Their titles came in 2019, 2024, 2025, and now 2026—all finals played against the same opponents, St. Mary’s Kitende.

To reach the final, St. Noa defeated Buddo Secondary School 49–34 in a thrilling semi-final clash, setting up yet another showdown with their arch-rivals.

Meanwhile, St. Mary’s Kitende cruised past Zana Mixed Secondary School with a dominant 47–22 victory in the other semi-final.

In the boys’ category, Buddo Secondary School also successfully defended their title, overcoming Mbogo Mixed 53–50 in another gripping final encounter.

Mbogo had earlier edged Elite High School 37–34 in the semi-finals, while Buddo secured their place in the final with a commanding 42–11 win over Kisubi Mapeera.

In the third-place playoffs, Buddo Secondary School girls defeated Zana Mixed Secondary School 25–18 to finish third. On the boys’ side, Kisubi Mapeera triumphed over Elite High School to claim third place.
