SC Villa produced a ruthless performance to crush Mbarara City 6-1 at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba, on Wednesday, cementing their position in the top three of the Uganda Premier League.
The hosts stormed into an early lead through Frank Ssebuufu’s sixth-minute header, before Hassan Mubiru doubled the advantage with a simple tap-in.
Mubiru’s influence was palpable, and he nearly extended the lead with a powerful shot that narrowly missed the target.
Mbarara City threatened to grab a consolation, with Ronald Edwok’s effort leaving SC Villa goalkeeper David Lukwago beaten, but the ball sailed just above the bar.
However, the hosts restored their comfort with Tonny Atukunda’s 30th-minute strike, followed by Aslam Semakula’s poacher’s finish five minutes later.
Yiga Najib and Mubiru added to the tally in the second half, with Mubiru’s 55th-minute goal capping a fine individual performance.
Mbarara City’s Wycliff Ahumuza was brought down in the box late on, and Clinton Kamugisha converted the resulting penalty to give the visitors a lifeline.
The victory propels SC Villa to third place with 29 points, while Mbarara City languish in 15th position with 11 points from 14 league games.
