Bosnian Goran Lojo takes reins of Uganda’s Silverbacks with European pedigree

The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has appointed Goran Lojo as the new Head Coach of the Uganda National Men’s Basketball Team, the Silverbacks.

Lojo, a Bosnian coach with an impressive international resume, succeeds George Galanopolous, who has led the team for the past five years.

Lojo’s experience includes leading the Bosnia and Herzegovina Women’s National Team to a fifth-place finish at the 2021 FIBA Women’s EuroBasket and qualifying for the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.

He has also worked with the Uganda National Women’s team, guiding them through their 2025 Women’s AfroBasket Qualifiers training camp in Germany.

The Silverbacks’ new coach will face his first challenge in the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers, where Uganda will take on Egypt, Angola, and Mali in Cairo or Alexandria from February 26 to March 1.
