In a dramatic Pepsi University Football League encounter, YMCA Comprehensive Institute edged out former champions Nkumba University 1-0 at the YMCA Buwambo campus.

The winning goal was scored by substitute Enoch Magezi in the first minute of added time.

Magezi’s decisive strike came after Nkumba goalkeeper Kazibwe Ronald spilled Luggya Ashraf’s powerful free kick, and the super-sub capitalized on the rebound to fire home.

The late winner sparked jubilant celebrations among the Buwambo crowd, marking YMCA’s first win of the campaign.

The match was evenly contested in the first half, with both teams creating scoring opportunities but failing to find the breakthrough.

The tension was palpable as Nkumba skipper Lubega Ismael attempted his trademark crosses, but YMCA captain Kyandiga Ibrahim marshaled his defense superbly to shut out the threats.

After the interval, YMCA’s midfield trio of Kisseka John, Kaganzi Ibrahim, and Luggya Ashraf dominated proceedings, leaving Nkumba’s defense struggling to cope.

Despite their best efforts, Nkumba couldn’t find a way past YMCA’s resolute defense.

The result lifts YMCA Comprehensive into second place in the group with three points, level with Kyambogo University.

Nkumba, the 11th edition champions, will need to regroup quickly after a disappointing start to their campaign.

Action continues on Wednesday with Gulu University hosting rivals Lira University in another highly anticipated fixture.
